Wieś Kończewice
The „Ziemia Polaków” (Land of the Poles) mound was raised in Kończewice near Toruń, at the junction of national road 1 and provincial road 551. It is an unusual monument: built not of stone but of soil brought from battlefields and places important to Polish history.
The initiative came from local veterans. Donors collected soil in Poland and abroad, placing it in bags and urns — material from more than a hundred locations linked to the service of soldiers of various formations has been gathered so far. Every portion has a documented origin.
Today the mound hosts patriotic ceremonies, anniversaries and national holidays, and an educational role for young people is also planned. The visit is short and entirely outdoors: a quarter of an hour is enough to walk around the mound, read the plaques and take a break on the route of the national road.
