Rudnik nad Sanem has lived from basket weaving for two centuries, and the Wickerwork Centre is its showcase. Housed in the Municipal Cultural Centre, it combines exhibition and educational functions. The beginnings of the local tradition are linked with Count Ferdynand Hompesch, who promoted willow growing and weaving.
The permanent display covers the history of the craft along with its archaeological and ethnographic threads: tools, willow varieties and the successive stages of preparing rods. Temporary exhibitions present both utilitarian and artistic wickerwork, from baskets and furniture to sculptural forms. An art gallery also operates here.
A good stop for families and anyone curious about handicraft; finished basketry shown alongside weaving techniques is easy to follow for children too. The visit takes about an hour, and Rudnik lies on the route along the San, so it fits easily into a longer drive across Subcarpathia.
