ul. Złotnickiego 7, Zduńska Wola
The modest house on Złotnickiego Street in Zduńska Wola is the birthplace of Rajmund Kolbe, later the Franciscan friar and saint Maximilian Maria Kolbe. The building belongs to the sanctuary dedicated to the friar and houses a museum arranged as a townhouse and craftsman's interior from the end of the 19th century.
The exhibition consists of five rooms, each telling a different part of the story. The Room of Life shows the family's everyday routine, the Room of Thought and Spirituality presents the saint's intellectual and religious formation, while the Kitchen and the Room of Tradition recall household duties and the weaving trade that supported his parents. The Room of Birth is on the upper floor.
The visit is short and combines well with the nearby Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, to which the sanctuary belongs. The place appeals to pilgrims, but also to anyone curious about life in a small town at the turn of the 20th century. The rooms are intimate, so larger groups should announce their visit in advance.
