The Astronomical Park of the Nicolaus Copernicus Museum sits on Żurawia Góra hill near Frombork, on the grounds of an astronomical observatory operating since 1980. An expansion turned it into a centre popularising astronomy, linked with the museum devoted to Copernicus.
The park holds a reception building with temporary exhibitions and observation pavilions housing astronomical instruments. The display shows how methods of observing the sky changed from the times of Copernicus to the present day - from simple angle-measuring devices to today's telescopes.
The greatest attraction are the evening sky shows led by the park staff. They take place when the weather cooperates, so it is worth arranging a date in advance. The hill, away from city lights, offers good observing conditions, and the park itself is suited to visits with children and with a pushchair.
