Cedynia
The Wrzosowiska Cedyńskie Reserve, named after the engineer Wiesław Czyżewski, protects over 72 hectares of grassland and heath on hills near Cedynia, in the western part of West Pomerania. It is a steppe reserve — besides heather there are sandy and xerothermic grasslands here, warmth-loving plant communities that are rare in this part of the country.
The strongest impression comes at the turn of August and September, when blooming heather turns the slopes purple and forms broad, undulating carpets. The rolling terrain opens the view in layers, which photographers appreciate. Outside the peak of flowering the reserve remains interesting for its rare grassland plants and rich insect life.
The reserve may be viewed only from the marked path leading to the viewpoint — stepping into the grassland is forbidden and destroys the habitat. A commemorative boulder stands beside the path. You can get here by the Oder and Zielona Odra cycling trails, while drivers leave their car in the car park at the entrance.
