Piła
The Kuźnik nature reserve lies on the south-western edge of Piła, in a glacial channel running down from the area of Lake Łachotka. The channel was formed during the last glaciation and its floor is filled with narrow lakes, peat bogs and wet meadows surrounded by the forests of the Zdrojowa Góra Forest District.
The greatest asset of the reserve is the variety of habitats packed into a small area: 349 species of vascular plants have been recorded here, from bog species to woodland ones. The name commemorates the forge that from the 17th century smelted bog iron ore mined nearby.
A yellow cycling route, three walking trails — yellow, green and blue — and a red horse-riding trail lead through the reserve and its surroundings. Visitors must keep strictly to the marked routes. A map showing the trails and the car park is published by the forest district.
