The Jar Reknicy forest reserve protects a natural stretch of the Reknica river on the eastern edge of the Kashubian Lake District, in the Kolbudy commune near Gdańsk. The river meanders through a deep ravine between Czapielsk and the mill in Kolbudy, among numerous springs and steep, wooded slopes.
The slopes of the ravine are covered by old-growth stands aged one hundred to one hundred and forty years — beeches, oaks and sycamores, some exceeding a metre in diameter and protected as natural monuments. Rare sweet violet and toothwort grow in the undergrowth. The area is protected within Natura 2000 as the Reknica Valley.
No tourist paths have been marked inside the reserve and part of it is under strict protection. The best views of the gorge open from its edges — near the old water mill, the stone bridge and the footbridge in Marszewska Kolonia.
