ul. Lipowa, Muszyna
The Las Lipowy Obrożyska reserve protects the only stand in the Carpathians dominated by small-leaved lime, exceptional also on the scale of Central and Western Europe. It lies on slopes above Muszyna in the Poprad valley, at the end of Lipowa Street. Alongside the limes grow silver fir, spruce, larch, sycamore maple and beech, giving the forest an unusual, multi-species structure.
The vegetation combines lowland and mountain species. Protected plants include greenish orchid, spotted orchid, sword-leaved helleborine and bird's-nest orchid, while goat's beard stands out in damper spots. Among mammals, roe deer, foxes, badgers and wild boar are encountered here. Birdwatchers look out for the white-backed woodpecker and the collared flycatcher.
A nature and study trail called 'Las Lipowy Obrożyska' runs through the reserve for over 4 km, with seven themed stops devoted to the local flora and fauna. You can walk here along Lipowa Street from Muszyna or arrive by the Main Carpathian Cycle Trail; a car park has been arranged at the trailhead.
