Józefów
The reserve covers the mouth of the Świder river where it joins the Vistula, together with a stretch of the river channel, islands, sandbanks and part of the banks. It lies within Józefów near Warsaw and protects one of the last natural, braided sections of the Vistula in Mazovia.
The sandbanks and islands are a nesting and resting place for water birds — around 140 species have been recorded here. Add to that more than 160 plant species and 175 species of invertebrates. Most of the reserve remains closed to visitors so that breeding birds are not disturbed.
The blue Świder Trail runs along the reserve and can be walked; leaving the path is strictly forbidden. Cyclists can reach the area on the main route of the Jeziorka Land, and the ferry at Gassy takes them to the other bank of the Vistula.
