Wieś Płaska
Perkuć is a nature reserve in the Augustów Forest, in the Płaska commune and within the local forest district. It covers a mosaic of habitats: pine and mixed forests, peatlands and Lake Kruglak with its rich aquatic vegetation. This is one of those parts of the forest where the natural character of the tree stand and of the water and peat system has been preserved.
Besides pine woods there are hazel and spruce forests, oak-hornbeam stands, alder carrs and bog woodlands, while rare and endangered species occur in the undergrowth and on the peatlands. The reserve is a valued birdwatching spot: cranes nest by Lake Kruglak and the surrounding old stands shelter many woodland species.
The cycling Papal Trail 'Mysteries of Light' runs through the reserve, and the Green Velo route passes along its edge, making it easy to combine a visit to the forest with the nearby villages and the Augustów Canal. Visitors must keep to the marked routes.
