Lwówek Śląski
Piekiełko is a small woodland lake near the village of Gaszów, a few kilometres from Lwówek Śląski. The pond was created in the 19th century in a clay pit belonging to the brickworks of Emil Wieland; today it is surrounded by forest and its water serves as a fire reservoir for the nearby stands.
A small arbour and jetties once stood on the shore; they were rebuilt in the 1990s. At the same time the Lwówek Śląski Forest District laid out an arboretum next to the lake, with a collection of trees and shrubs. A small park with a picturesque island adjoins the water.
This is a place for a quiet walk rather than a full-day trip: short footpaths run around the water and through the arboretum, easy also for families with children. Local residents come here willingly, especially in spring and summer.
