Wieś Szymbark
Beskidzkie Morskie Oko is one of the largest landslide lakes in the Polish Carpathians. It lies on the slope of Maślana Góra near Szymbark, on the border between the Low Beskids and the Carpathian Foothills. The water fills a hollow created by mass movement: a large landslide came down here in 1784, and the lake itself formed in 1914 after another slippage of ground.
Apart from the water surface, the whole landslide form draws attention: a wide niche cut into the slope and the tree-covered tongue below it. In summer, with low water and lush vegetation, the lake can be hard to spot, which is why a marked walking path leads to it. It is most visible in early spring and late autumn.
Access is provided by the blue hiking trail to Maślana Góra, starting near Szymbark. From here you can continue along the green Wincenty Pol trail, which links the surrounding hills: Jelenia Góra, Maślana Góra and Zielona Góra.
