The Góra św. Wawrzyńca reserve lies in Kałdus near Chełmno, on the edge of the lower Vistula valley, within the Chełmno Landscape Park. It protects xerothermic grasslands covering the ramparts of a former stronghold and is the smallest reserve along this stretch of the valley.
Protection was introduced for the warmth-loving plant communities with feather grass and sand cinquefoil. The steppe species reached this spot along the sunlit slopes of the valley. The grasslands are also home to cowslip, Thuringian mallow and viper's-bugloss hawkweed. Late spring and early summer are the best time for observation.
The yellow “Chełmno Reserves” trail runs through the buffer zone and can be walked or cycled. The hill also serves as a viewpoint over the Vistula valley, and the stronghold itself is one of the region's more important archaeological sites. Move across the grasslands only along the marked paths.
