Józefów
The Wyspy Zawadowskie reserve covers a stretch of the Vistula valley south of Warsaw, around Józefów, Kępa Oborska and Kępa Okrzewska, reaching as far as the boundaries of the Wilanów and Wawer districts. It protects sandy shoals, islands and oxbow lakes — the landscape of a river that has largely retained its natural character here.
The greatest asset of the reserve is its birdlife. The islands and shallows offer convenient breeding sites and feeding grounds for numerous species of water and wading birds, including rare ones. Beavers and other animals tied to the river environment can also be seen along the water and in the riparian forests. Binoculars are essential equipment here.
A red trail runs through the area and leads to the reserve. Movement is permitted only in places designated for it — a condition for keeping the birds undisturbed during the breeding season. Angling is possible after obtaining the required permit.
