Beka is a fauna and meadow reserve at the mouth of the Reda river on Puck Bay, within the Coastal Landscape Park in Puck County. It protects coastal meadows, reed beds and shallow floodwaters, habitats that have become rare across Poland.
Birds are the reserve's greatest asset: around 200 species have been recorded here and more than forty of them breed on site. Equally valuable is the salt-tolerant vegetation growing on the periodically flooded salt meadows. Botanists have counted more than a dozen halophyte species, found in Poland almost exclusively along the seashore.
An educational trail plus marked walking and cycling routes lead across the area. Leaving them is forbidden, as it disturbs birds during the breeding season. Spring and autumn are the most rewarding, when migrating flocks stop on the shallows. Binoculars and waterproof footwear come in handy, and a free mobile app devoted to the reserve provides extra background.
