Wieś Wola Zarczycka
Kołacznia is a floristic reserve in Wola Zarczycka, in the Nowa Sarzyna municipality, regarded as the smallest protected area of its kind in the country. It covers only a few ares on a low rise among the fields and woods of the Sandomierz Basin.
Protection was introduced for the natural stand of yellow rhododendron, also known as Pontic azalea — the only wild occurrence of the species in Poland. The shrubs flower in May, covering themselves in vivid yellow, strongly scented blooms; that is the best time to visit. Several dozen vascular plant species and a few mosses have also been recorded here, including round-leaved sundew.
The reserve is tiny and is viewed from its edge, without stepping into the undergrowth. A green walking trail and the blue ATR cycling route lead to it. The visit combines easily with a trip through the surrounding Sandomierz Forest.
