Wieś Santok
Santockie Zakole is an ornithological and botanical reserve near Santok in Lubusz Voivodeship, in the area where the Noteć flows into the Warta. It was created to protect the breeding sites of water and wading birds along with riverside habitats: flood meadows, oxbow lakes and the woodland of the valley.
This is one of the better places in the region to watch water and wading birds — the terrain provides them with both breeding conditions and feeding grounds. Impressive pedunculate oaks grow here, many of them of monumental size and over 20 metres tall. Among the plants of the undergrowth and wetlands there are rare species, including the marsh violet, water ragwort, Cambridge milk-parsley and marsh rush.
A nature and tourist trail with information boards explaining the assets of the valley leads across the reserve. An early morning visit with binoculars gives the best results. Santok itself, with its stronghold site and museum, is the natural complement to the trip.
