Wieś Jakubów
St James's Spring rises in Jakubów in the Polkowice district, at the foot of the sanctuary dedicated to the same patron. The place has been known since the Middle Ages — as early as the 14th century pilgrims came here from Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia and lands further afield. Today Jakubów is one of the key points on the Polish stretch of the Way of St James.
Tradition ascribes healing power to the water, especially in ailments of the eyes, and that is the intention most pilgrims bring with them. Above the spring stands a figure of St James in pilgrim's dress: with a staff, a shell and a broad-brimmed hat. A small square with benches was arranged around it, serving prayer and a rest along the way.
A visit to the spring is easy to combine with the Baroque church and its venerated image of Our Lady of Jakubów. Marked walking and cycling routes lead to the village — many pilgrims arrive by bike from Głogów or Polkowice. The site is open and free of charge all year round.
