Wieś Krutyń
The Masurian Bee Oak grows on the edge of the „Zakręt” reserve, in the Krutyń forest district within the Pisz Forest. It is a pedunculate oak with a trunk girth of about 315 centimetres and a height reaching 28 metres, protected as a natural monument. Around it stands the old growth of the Masurian Landscape Park, one of the region's most valuable natural areas.
The name refers to old forest beekeeping — for years the trunk housed a large colony of bees, which died out during the severe winter of 1979. The oak itself remains a living reminder of the region's old woodland craft and of how fragile the balance of nature can be.
A red educational trail leads to the tree — from the road it is about 200 metres into the forest. The same path passes another well-known specimen, the Krutyń Oak. The trip is easy to combine with a kayak run down the Krutynia river or a walk around the village itself, one of the best known in Masuria.
