Wieś Zgon
The „Królewska Sosna” nature reserve lies in the Masurian Landscape Park near the village of Zgon, within the Strzałowo forest district. It protects the old growth of a subboreal mixed forest typical of the Pisz Forest, together with three small dystrophic lakes and the peatbogs adjoining them. The oldest trees here are up to 400 years old.
The name commemorates the monumental „Royal Pine”, destroyed by a windstorm in February 2022. The Oak above Mukry, named after Karol Małłek, has survived — a specimen over 30 metres tall with a trunk five metres in girth. A curiosity of the reserve are the floating islands: detached patches of peatbog drifting across the small lakes.
The yellow Karol Małłek trail runs through the area, and nearby there are a cycling route around Lake Mokre and the Krutyń nature path. In the undergrowth look out for Carthusian pink, Teklа's pasqueflower and the round-leaved sundew. Visitors must keep strictly to the marked paths.
