Wieś Krutyń
The „Zakręt” reserve lies about a kilometre from the village of Krutyń, by the road towards Lake Mokre, in the Masurian Landscape Park. It was created to protect three small forest lakes together with the surrounding bog woodland and oak-hornbeam forest.
The peaty lake margins support protected plant species, and low, stunted pines over a hundred years old grow on the boggy ground. Birds include the goldeneye, hazel grouse, jay, green sandpiper and eagle owl; deer, wild boar and raccoon dogs also appear here.
An educational path runs through the reserve — stay on it, as the boggy ground is fragile and in places unsafe. Early morning is the best time for wildlife watching. The monumental Krutyń Oak grows nearby.
