Wieś Tumlin-Podgród
Kręgi Kamienne is a geological nature reserve on the summit of Góra Grodowa above Tumlin-Podgród, in the northern part of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. It protects outcrops of red Tumlin sandstone together with stone ramparts long associated with a pre-Christian cult site. The climb from the foot of the hill takes about a quarter of an hour.
Concentric ramparts of loosely stacked sandstone blocks survive on the summit plateau, still legible despite centuries of erosion. Nearby, a barrow cemetery linked with settlement from the early centuries AD has been discovered. Archaeologists still disagree about the purpose of the circles, which adds to the aura of mystery drawing visitors from across Poland.
The hill is covered by a pine forest almost 120 years old with an admixture of birch, and patches of inland heath persist on the rocky ledges. The red Świętokrzyski Main Trail and the green Stone Circles Trail both cross the reserve, so it is easy to include in a longer hike.
