Birch Avenue runs along Bialska Street in Częstochowa, from Sikorskiego Street to św. Kaspra del Bufalo Street, over a stretch of about 2.5 km. It is made up of nearly 385 silver birches planted in regular rows on both sides of the road.
The trees are around sixty years old and have already reached considerable trunk girths. The pale, peeling bark and high-set crowns create a distinctive tunnel of light, seen at its best in spring and early autumn. Younger birches grow among the older ones, filling the gaps in the row.
This is a place for a short walk or a shaded bike ride, with no fees and no opening hours. The avenue is easy to reach and passable with a pushchair, and birds regularly feed in the crowns, which birdwatchers will appreciate. Bear in mind that this is an ordinary city street with car traffic.
