ul. Sójek, Podkowa Leśna
The Parów Sójek reserve is a small wooded area in Podkowa Leśna near Warsaw, shaped by the incision of a stream valley. The hilly relief and the damp floor of the ravine mean that several forest types sit side by side within a short distance.
The core is an old broadleaf stand in which the oldest trees are about 140 years old. Oak-hornbeam forest dominates and locally gives way to riparian woodland, while an alder and ash forest grows in the northern part. The undergrowth holds large patches of asarabacca, along with lungwort, hedge woundwort, balsam and common hop.
Despite the name, the jay is far from the only bird here — many woodland species can be heard in the crowns and the undergrowth. The land along the stream was a favourite walking spot of composer Karol Szymanowski even before the park was laid out in 1925.
