Szosa Elbląska, Ostróda
Several massive oaks recognised as natural monuments grow in Ostróda. Three of them stand in the town itself, at the junctions of 21 Stycznia and Pieniężnego streets and of Grunwaldzka and Czarnieckiego streets; the fourth and most impressive one stands near Szosa Elbląska.
The urban specimens reach trunk girths of roughly 385 to 410 cm and heights of up to 30 metres. The solitary oak by Szosa Elbląska is about 25 metres tall with a girth of 510 cm. It is known as the Blücher Oak and is sometimes called Napoleon's oak.
The trees stand only a short distance apart, so the easiest way to see them is on foot while walking around Ostróda. They grow in green strips beside busy streets, so take care of the traffic when taking photographs. Access is possible all year round.
