Wieś Michniów
The Kamień Michniowski nature reserve lies by the village of Michniów in the Skarżysko district, within the Sieradowice Landscape Park. It protects a forest dominated by silver fir along with outcrops of Triassic sandstone covered in rock-dwelling vegetation. The name comes from Kamień Michniowski, the highest point of the Sieradowice Range.
A group of more than a dozen rock formations stretches for some 200 metres, forming cliffs, pulpits, ledges and steps. Beneath one of the pulpits hides Jaskinia Ponurego, the largest cave in the Świętokrzyskie region, formed without any karst processes. During the Second World War partisans from the unit of Jan Piwnik „Ponury” sheltered inside it.
The reserve is reached by the blue trail from Berezów to Suchedniów and by the black trail from the St Barbara chapel to Kamień Michniowski. Drivers usually leave the car by road no. 751 in Michniów and continue on foot along one of the forest paths.
