Wieś Adamów
Skały pod Adamowem is a geological and floristic nature reserve in the Starachowice district of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship. It protects outcrops of Lower Triassic sandstone that run along the slope of a small valley for about a kilometre. The tallest walls reach six metres, and the rocky wall breaks up into segments from a few to several dozen metres long.
The sandstones formed from sediments laid down on the floor of a shallow, warm sea that covered the area at the dawn of the Triassic. Wind and water carved them into blocks with rounded edges, clear bedding and shallow niches. The reserve is therefore a cross-section through the geological history of the northern rim of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains.
The rocks are surrounded by a nearly hundred-year-old pine stand with birch and oak, giving shade throughout the season. The site is intimate; walking the whole belt of rocks takes about two hours at an unhurried pace. Visitors must keep to the marked paths — the ground can be steep and slippery after rain.
