Wieś Lubienia
The Rosochacz Reserve lies in the Starachowice Forest District, within the Kamienna Valley Protected Landscape Area, next to the village of Lubienia. Protection covers natural, multi-species stands growing on the waterlogged springs of the Świętojanka river. It is a patch of forest where water seeps straight from beneath the roots and forms the beginning of a river channel.
Alder and pine dominate the stands, together covering more than four fifths of the area. They are joined by birch, oak, maple, aspen, fir, hornbeam, elm and spruce, giving a rarely seen mosaic of species. The wet alder carr and spring-fed riparian woods shelter birds, amphibians and insects tied to deadwood.
An educational loop of about two kilometres runs through the reserve, with 29 information boards. The boggiest sections are crossed on wooden boardwalks built by the forest district. Walking the whole route with stops at the boards takes several hours.
