The Przytoń - Wąwóz Brdy Reserve protects a stretch of the Brda valley in the Niedźwiady Forest District, near the village of Rudniki in Kashubia. The river runs here through a deeply incised gorge with steep, wooded slopes. It is the youngest and most visited protected area in this part of the Tuchola Forest, and most visitors see it from a kayak.
The gorge slopes carry mezereon, common polypody, black currant and sweet woodruff. Higher up stand imposing beeches and pines around two hundred years old. Deadwood is left to nature — dying trunks are colonised by fungi, insects and birds, and a new generation of trees regenerates in their shade.
The reserve lies on the popular Brda kayak route. Trunks felled by wind and beavers form natural obstacles that can challenge beginners, though they can usually be passed around or portaged. The banks are steep, so convenient places to leave the water are few.
