Wieś Lipa
The Wąwóz Lipa Nature Reserve lies next to the village of Lipa in Jawor County, at about 400 m above sea level. It protects natural forests, rock vegetation and monumental erratic boulders in a narrow V-shaped valley. The bedrock belongs to a greenstone complex: greenstones, greenstone schists and diabases.
Three forest types have developed on the gorge slopes: slope oak-hornbeam forest, oak wood and elm-ash riparian forest. Crevice ferns grow on the rock outcrops, pushing into the fissures of the diabase. The damp, shaded valley floor favours mosses and understorey plants typical of old woodland.
The greatest curiosity of the reserve is its numerous population of fire salamanders, easiest to spot in the rocky part of the gorge after rain and at dusk. The animals must not be touched or moved. Crossing the gorge is short and takes about an hour, but the path can be slippery.
