The „Buczyna Jakubowska” reserve lies by the village of Jakubów in the Polkowice district of Lower Silesia. It was established to protect well-preserved stretches of beech forest along with the adjoining oak-hornbeam and riparian woods. The terrain is varied, cut by small valleys and fed by natural seepages.
The springs are the reserve's greatest distinction. One of them has been adapted for visitors and is known as St James's Spring. An old legend about the healing power of its water surrounds the place, drawing not only nature lovers but also pilgrims following the routes of St James.
The reserve is a refuge for rare plants — among them protected common ivy, climbing the trunks in the shade of old beeches. An educational trail with boards leads through the area, explaining how a beech forest is built and why such stands are worth protecting.
