Wieś Izbica
Bagna Izbickie is a peat bog reserve in the Główczyce commune in Pomerania, lying immediately next to the boundary of Słowiński National Park, within its buffer zone. It protects an extensive Baltic-type raised bog together with a mosaic of moss carpets, heaths, waterlogged woodland and marshes.
The greatest asset of the reserve are the patches of Atlantic wet heath with cross-leaved heath — among the largest and best preserved in Poland. In summer, during the flowering season, the bog takes on a pink and purple hue. The open expanse of the moss carpet offers a wide view, a rarity in Pomerania where forest usually closes off the landscape.
A viewing platform has been built within the reserve, allowing the panorama of the bog to be admired without entering the fragile habitat. Visiting is limited to the marked route — the ground is boggy and the moss vegetation extremely sensitive to trampling. The visit combines easily with a trip to the dunes of Słowiński National Park.
