Wieś Gwizdów
Imielty Ług is a nature reserve on the border of the Lublin and Subcarpathian provinces, near the village of Gwizdów in the Janów district. It covers one of the largest raised bogs of the Solska Forest — the peat here reaches six metres in thickness — along with transitional mires, shrinking pools and the surrounding swamp forest.
Several dozen plant communities have been described here, including glacial relicts: the rannoch-rush, the bilberry willow and the downy willow, as well as rare sedges. The reserve is an important bird refuge — close to a hundred species have been recorded, among them the crane, the black stork, the white-tailed eagle, the osprey, the bittern and the black woodpecker. The fungal and lichen flora is equally rich.
The Imielty Ług educational trail for walkers and cyclists runs through the reserve, and an observation tower and a pier make watching easier. A striking feature of the landscape is the dune cutting into the bog like a spur, and the overgrowing woodland pool at the centre of the reserve. Early spring mornings are the best time for birdwatching.
