Wieś Wysoka Wieś
The Jezioro Francuskie nature reserve lies in Ostróda County, within the Dylewskie Hills Landscape Park, right beside Góra Dylewska and the village of Wysoka Wieś. It protects a forest lake together with the surrounding woodland — the lake is regarded as the highest situated in the Warmian-Masurian voivodeship. It is one of three protected areas within the park.
The reason for protection is the flora, above all a stand of the blueberry willow, a relict bog species. Wetland plant communities cover the lake shores, while forest grows on the steep morainic slopes of the Dylewskie Hills, one of the highest elevations of the Polish lowlands.
A nature trail about two kilometres long runs through the reserve, equipped with interpretive boards about the forest and its inhabitants. A playground for children has been set up along the route, which makes the walk work well as a family outing. The name of the lake — originally Sałk — goes back to the Napoleonic campaigns and a local tradition about French soldiers drowned here.
