Wieś Piwnice
The Las Piwnicki reserve lies on the high terraces of the Vistula, between the villages of Piwnice and Różankowo near Toruń. It was already protected in 1912, when the then owner banned all exploitation of the stand. Oaks over 350 years old and pines older than 160 years grow here.
The aim of protection is to preserve natural forest communities on terrace and dune sands: alder carr as well as low and typical oak-hornbeam woods dominated by hornbeam. The Struga Łysomicka stream runs along the southern boundary, cutting into the ground between erratic boulders, and its meanders form a picturesque stretch of valley.
West of the central part of the reserve lies a clearing with three shallow ponds, surrounded by alder carr. The site serves research and education — a walking path and two educational trails, marked in orange and green, lead through it.
