Lublin
Stasin is a small forest reserve within the boundaries of Lublin, in the Stary Gaj woodland managed by the Świdnik Forest District. It protects a fragment of deciduous forest with the black birch, a tree rare in Poland — a 2011 survey counted 84 specimens here. Despite the closeness of the city, the quiet inside the reserve is that of a large forest complex.
The undergrowth is Stasin's greatest asset. Protected species grow here: goat's beard, martagon lily, greater butterfly-orchid, bird's-nest orchid and mezereon, and in late summer the common stinkhorn appears. The dense layers of the forest create a humid microclimate that keeps the vegetation in good condition throughout the growing season.
It is a destination for a quiet walk or a short bike ride — the ground is flat and the forest tracks lead further into Stary Gaj. It looks best in spring, when the undergrowth is in flower. Leaving the marked tracks is prohibited within the reserve.
