A trail on the edge of the Drawa Forest

The „Nad Bukówką” nature and forest trail runs near the village of Smolarnia in the Czarnków-Trzcianka district, on the fringes of the Drawa Forest. It follows the Rychlicki Pond and the small Bukówka river, a right-bank tributary of the Noteć. The route is divided into three sections of 2 km, 4.5 km and 6.5 km, so visitors can match the distance to their time and fitness.

What to see

The most interesting stretch is the former manor park laid out on a sandy ridge shaped during the last glaciation. Beeches, sycamores, pines, limes, hornbeams and oaks grow here. The star is the pedunculate oak known as „Wojtek”, 7.5 m in girth and 24 m tall, estimated at around four hundred years old. A dendrological curiosity is a black alder whose three branches have fused with a neighbouring sycamore.

Who it suits

The trail works best as a quiet family walk: the terrain is flat and interpretive boards explain the forest and the river valley. Sturdy shoes help after rain, when the woodland sections turn muddy.
