Czarny Kamień is a group of limestone outcrops in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, in Myszków County, in the area of Żarki and Łutowiec. The rocks rise among forest and fields, forming the landscape typical of the Jura: white towers standing above the greenery. The best known feature of the formation is a rock window — an opening pierced through the solid wall by water and weathering.
The crag has long been a popular climbing destination. More than a dozen routes of varying difficulty have been set out on its walls, fitted with protection bolts and rappel stations. The limestone here is compact, with characteristic pockets and ledges, giving technical climbing that is accessible also to those with little experience.
You do not need to climb to appreciate the place. Forest paths lead to the rocks from the nearest road, and walking around the formation takes a quarter of an hour. The area has a dense network of Jurassic hiking and cycling routes, including the Trail of the Eagles Nests, so Czarny Kamień is easy to combine with a visit to nearby castles and other crags.
