Karpacz
Kocioł Łomniczki, also called the cirque below Śnieżka, is a broad hollow carved by a glacier into the Karkonosze slope beneath the Równia pod Śnieżką plateau. Its walls are close to a hundred metres high and its floor lies between 1100 and 1150 metres above sea level.
Along the western rim, in the Łomniczka ravine, a system of cascades forms the Łomniczka Waterfall, the highest in the Polish Karkonosze. The steep slopes are covered with dwarf pine and valuable alpine vegetation, and the best view of the whole hollow opens from the trails running higher up towards Śnieżka.
A popular but demanding route from Karpacz to Śnieżka leads through the cirque, passing the Symbolic Cemetery of Mountain Victims and, higher up, the Dom Śląski mountain hut. The climb is steep and stony, so sturdy boots and a few spare hours are advisable.
