Wieś Bolęcin
The Triassic Rock lies at the foot of Góra Bolęcka in the village of Bolęcin, in the Trzebinia commune on the western edge of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. Visitors simply call it the Castle because of its fortress-like outline. The base of the formation measures about ten by thirty metres and its walls reach eight metres.
The rock is built of Triassic diplopora dolomites, which preserve fossils of algae of the genus Diplopora. Its present shape results from millions of years of erosion that gradually turned an original rock rib into a free-standing tor.
The formation is a natural monument and one of the twelve sites counted among the Green Pearls of Trzebinia. Paths through woodland and scrub lead to it, and the walk can be extended over the surrounding hills with views of the valley.
