Wieś Gorzeszów
Diabelska Maczuga, also known as Czarci Głaz, is a solitary sandstone block rising above the fields in the village of Gorzeszów in the Kamienna Góra district, not far from Krzeszów. The formation is protected as a monument of inanimate nature and belongs to the same family of sandstone tors as the nearby Głazy Krasnoludków reserve.
A folk tale explains the boulder with the devil's anger: he was said to have hurled the stone at the monastery the Cistercians were building in Krzeszów, but startled by a cock's crow he lost his power and dropped the load in the fields outside the village. The inscription „1813–1913” carved into the rock commemorates the anniversary of the Battle of Leipzig — a keepsake of the former German inhabitants of this land.
The rock stands in open country and is reached by a field track from the houses of Gorzeszów. It is best combined with a walk to the Głazy Krasnoludków reserve and a trip to the abbey in Krzeszów. The terrain is gentle and the route short enough for children.
