Wieś Bukowiec
Diable Skały is a small reserve of inanimate nature on Bukowiec hill in the Nowy Sącz district, in the belt of foothills above the Dunajec valley. It protects a group of imposing rock forms built of Ciężkowice sandstone together with a fissure cave created by mass movements and tectonic processes.
The sandstone towers and pulpits of the reserve belong to the same belt of outcrops as Skamieniałe Miasto in Ciężkowice; the chain runs through Kąśna Dolna and Siekierczyna as far as Bukowiec. The cave is an important winter roost for bats — the lesser horseshoe bat and the greater mouse-eared bat hibernate here, so its interior remains closed to visitors.
The reserve forms part of the Natura 2000 site „Ostoje Nietoperzy Okolic Bukowca”. Sightseeing follows a marked path through beech woodland; the route is short but steep in places and slippery after rain. The visit is worth combining with nearby Skamieniałe Miasto.
