Opatowiec
The mouth of the Dunajec lies at Ujście Jezuickie, close to Opatowiec, on the border between Lesser Poland and the Świętokrzyskie region. It is one of the few places in Poland where the meeting of two large rivers can be watched from the bank at such close range. Both are of similar width here, so at first glance it is hard to tell which of them is the main river.
On the higher escarpment above the Vistula bank stands a monument commemorating Józef Piłsudski. Between 23 and 27 September 1914 the 1st Infantry Regiment of the Legions under his command crossed the Vistula in this area after heavy fighting. The site therefore combines scenic value with a reminder of First World War events.
The VeloDunajec cycle route and the Vistula Cycle Route pass nearby, making the confluence a convenient stopping point on a longer trip. In 2019 the site received a distinction in the Tourist Treasures of Lesser Poland competition.
