A flood reservoir with a second life

The reservoir in Rydzyna, widely known as Zalew Rydzyna, was built primarily to retain water and protect the town from flooding. Over time it took on a second role and today it is one of the most popular leisure spots in the Leszno district. It lies along Wolności street, just beyond the built-up part of Rydzyna, a dozen or so kilometres from Leszno.

What you can do here

A surfaced walking and cycling loop runs around the water and is popular with roller skaters as well. The shore has an unguarded beach, jetties and a playground, and cyclists will find a self-service repair station. The reservoir is a fixture on the local anglers' map, while the open banks make it easy to watch waterfowl.

Who it suits

This is a place for a few unplanned hours: a walk around the shore, a swim at your own risk, a picnic on the grass. Flat, surfaced paths make it easy to get around with a pushchair. It is worth combining the visit with Rydzyna itself — the Baroque Leszczyński castle and the market square are a short walk from the water.
