Wieś Stara Tuchorza
Lake Brajec lies in the Wolsztyn district, hidden among forests in the valley of the river Dojca, close to the village of Stara Tuchorza. It is a post-glacial body of water with a distinctly elongated shape, squeezed between wooded slopes. Its ribbon-lake form and the surrounding old-growth trees make it stand out clearly from the typical lakes of Greater Poland.
A broad belt of reeds lines the shores and shelters water and wading birds — one reason why access to the water is restricted and camping is forbidden. Above the surface rise parabolic dunes several dozen metres high, a landform rarely seen in this part of the country and rewarding for naturalists and casual walkers alike.
Cars are left near the Krzewina forester's lodge, from where some eight hundred metres of forest track lead down to the lake. The water is stocked regularly — carp, grass carp, tench, bream, pike, perch and roach all live here, so anglers are frequent visitors. Everyone else gets a quiet walk, birdwatching and a stillness hard to find at busier lakes.
