Wieś Hutki-Kanki
The springs of the Centuria lie by the village of Hutki-Kanki in the Zawiercie district, within the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. The river rises at about 345 metres above sea level among pine forest, and the whole complex of springs is protected as a monument of inanimate nature. From here the Centuria flows towards the Biała Przemsza, which it joins near Błędów.
Along its upper course the river forms shallow flood areas and wetlands — a habitat for marsh vegetation. Polish scurvy-grass grows here, an endemic species listed in the Polish Red Book of Plants, and the clean, cold water shelters the rare brook lamprey. For that reason it is best to keep to the marked paths.
The visit takes little time and combines well with a tour of the Jura castles and the Błędów Desert. The ground can be boggy, especially in spring and after rainfall, so waterproof footwear comes in handy.
