Wieś Sianki
Źródła Sanu lie in the far south-eastern corner of Poland, right by the Ukrainian border, near the former village of Sianki in the Bieszczady district. The exact point where the river emerges has been disputed for years — the marked trail ends at a conventional spring, while an obelisk on the Ukrainian side marks the beginning of the San. For visitors, the character of the place matters more than geographical precision: silence, emptiness and the raw landscape of the High Bieszczady.
The route runs through the grounds of former settlements — Sianki, Beniowa and Bukowiec — abandoned after the resettlements of the mid-20th century. All that remains are overgrown orchards, foundations, roadside crosses and cemeteries reclaimed by vegetation. The trail follows the valley, through meadows and alder groves, with views of the border ridges.
The area belongs to the border zone and is protected, so movement is allowed only along the marked trail. Bring water and allow plenty of time — there are no shops or eateries nearby.
