The u Strażaka landing in Maćkowa Ruda lies in the heart of the Augustów Forest, on one of the most popular stretches of the Czarna Hańcza. The river runs here in a narrow, winding bed through woodland and wet meadows, and the current is gentle enough for beginners. It is a classic route of the Suwałki region, often combined with the Augustów Canal.
The operator hires out kayaks and provides transport to the start and pick-up from the finishing point, so participants do not have to arrange the logistics themselves. The length of the route is matched to the abilities of the group — from a section of a few hours to a full-day expedition. Along the way water birds and traces of beavers are easy to spot.
The base has a campsite with sanitary facilities, a car park, a fire and barbecue area and a sauna. This makes it possible to treat the trip as part of a longer stay rather than a single-day outing. Dogs are welcome.
