Mylof Lock (Great Brda Canal)

The Mylof Lock is a hydrotechnical structure at the start of the Great Brda Canal, in the area of the Mylof dam and hydroelectric power station, linked to the irrigation system of the Tuchola Forest, of which the aqueduct in Fojutowo is also a part.

Location and surroundings

The lock is located in Mylof in the Czersk commune (Chojnice County), Pomeranian Voivodeship, at the point where water is diverted from the Brda into the Great Brda Canal. Nearby operate the historic Mylof hydroelectric power station and the dam.

History

The Great Brda Canal, about 21 km long, begins at the lock in Mylof and runs towards the village of Barłogi. The canal was built in the mid-19th century (1841-1848) to irrigate the meadows and fields of the Tuchola Forest.
