Eng. Tadeusz Tillinger Lock (Żerań Canal)

The Żerań Lock, named after engineer Tadeusz Tillinger, is a large double lock on the waterway from the Warsaw section of the Vistula to Lake Zegrzyńskie, one of the largest structures of its kind in Poland.

Location and surroundings

The lock is located in the Żerań district of Warsaw, at the junction of the Żerań Canal with the Vistula, in the Masovian Voivodeship. Together with the Żerań Canal and the Dębe water step, it forms the Warsaw water junction.

History

The lock was built together with the Żerań Canal; it was put into operation in 1963. Its total length is 104 m, and the chamber measures 85 x 12 m. For a time it was one of the largest locks of this type in the world.

A large double chamber lock between the Żerań port and the Vistula, handling navigation traffic between the Vistula and Lake Zegrzyńskie.
